I am not looking to lose weight, but I do want to be more conscious of what I am eating so I decided to download almost every photo food journal in the App Store. I tested them all out, and MealLogger was the closest to what I was looking for.
I like that MealLogger allows me to set up an account, so that if I switch over to another device, my journal isnt lost. I like that I can upload an existing picture and that the pic doesnt save to my camera roll if I take it in the app. I like that I can manually log which meal of the day I am snapping (its missing a dessert category though) and add a description. I like that the time the meal was eaten can be entered automatically or manually. And I like that I can view my journal as a long list of meals or have it sorted into the meals Ive eaten that week. All of these things make it easier for me to see patterns in my eating habits.
However, I dont like that only a thin strip of my meals pic is shown when viewing my journal as a long list, because Im not looking at the whole meal anymore. The full image or a small thumbnail would be better. I dont like that my user image has to be shown beside each meal, if it is already shown at the top of my journal. It makes my journal too crowded. (In groups, it makes sense to display each meal with the users image because different users are posting in the group.) And it would also be great if there was a section where users could rate the healthiness of each others meals to get a better idea of the nutritional value of our meals.
Overall, MealLogger is great for a diet journal and easier than writing down what you ate. The app itself is functional and more appealing than other photo food journal apps, but there are still some minor improvements that could be made to the design/layout to make this app the absolute best.
